01 March 2023: Re-Poll at four polling stations

  • Four polling stations in Nagaland went for re-polls on 1 March 2023.
  • The Election Commission of India (ECI) ordered repolling at four polling stations in Nagaland’s Zunheboto, Wokha, Mon and Tuensang districts on 28th February 2023.
  • The four polling stations where re-poll was held are:
    1. New Colony polling station in Zunheboto assembly segment,
    2. Pangti V in Sanis constituency,Wokha
    3. Jaboka village in Tizit constituency, Mon and
    4. Pathso East Wing in Thonoknyu, Tuensang

02 March 2023: Counting begins for Nagaland Assembly Election 2023

  • Nagaland went to polls on 27th Feb. 2023 for 59 constituencies with a tentative voter turnout of 83.36 per cent till 5 PM. Counting on March 2.
  • Total 12 (twelve) political parties contested in the Nagaland Assembly Election 2023.
  • Total candidates contesting in the Nagaland Assembly Election 2023: 184
  • Total independent candidates contesting: 19
  • Elected unopposed: 1 (BJP, 31 A/C Akuloto)
  • Kazheto Kinimi, BJP candidate from 31- Akuluto assembly constituency in Nagaland won the Nagaland Assembly Election 2023 unopposed / uncontested for a second term.

02 March 2023: Nagaland scripts history, elects two women MLA

  • Nagaland scripts history. For the first time ever, two women were elected to the Nagaland Legislative Assembly as per the result declared for the Nagaland Legislative Assembly election 2023.
    1. Hekani Jakhalu (NDPP) from Dimapur III constituency and
    2. Salhoutuonuo Kruse  (NDPP)  from Western Angami constituency.

  • Hekani Jakhalu becomes the first woman MLA in Nagaland after registering a victory in the Dimapur-III constituency. Hekani Jakhalu won by a margin of 1536 votes against her nearest rival – AZHETO ZHIMOMI (Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas)).
  • Later, the Election Commission confirmed the victory of the second woman candidate Salhoutuonuo Kruse from Western Angami AC, who won by a margin of just 7 votes against her nearest rival Keneizhakho Nakhro
    (Independent).

@BJP4Nagaland scripted history by nominating @SPhangnon to the RS, making her the first woman RS MP from Nagaland. This is an encouraging trend, in line with the vibrant Naga culture.

02 March 2023: Nagaland Legislative Assembly Election 2023 results – most and least margin

  • Winner with the most margin: N. JACOB ZHIMOMI (BJP) with a margin of 20096 votes
    • N. JACOB ZHIMOMI (BJP) won against V. PHUSHIKA AOMI (Independent) with a margin of 20096 votes at Ghaspani-I Constituency.

 

  • Winner with the least margin: Salhoutuonuo Kruse (NDPP) with a margin of 7 votes
    • Salhoutuonuo Kruse (NDPP) won against Keneizhakho Nakhro (Independent) with a margin of just 7 votes at Western Angami Constituency.

07 March 2023: Neiphiu Rio is Nagaland CM for the fifth term

  • Neiphiu Rio was sworn in as the Chief Minister of Nagaland for the fifth term. The 72-year-old politician was administered the oath of secrecy by Governor La Ganesan in the presence of
  • Taditui Rangkau Zeliang and Yanthungo Patton took oath as Deputy Chief Ministers of Nagaland in Kohima, while other members of the Rio Cabinet also took oath.
  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, BJP president J.P. Nadda and Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma were among those present at the oath-taking ceremony in Kohima.

Salhoutuonuo Kruse (NDPP) is the first Naga woman cabinet minister in the Nagaland Legislative Assembly.

10 March 2023: Nagaland MLA Mhathung Yanthan took oath as Protem speaker of 14th Nagaland Legislative Assembly

  • Nagaland Governor La. Ganesan appointed Mhathung Yanthan as the Protem speaker of the 14th Nagaland Legislative Assembly on 8th March 2023 as per provisions of Article 180(2) of the Constitution.
  • On 10th March 2023, Nagaland MLA Mhathung Yanthan took oath in the presence of Chief Secretary, DGP Nagaland, Home Commissioner and other officials at the office chamber of the Governor at Raj Bhavan Kohima,  as the Protem speaker. He will administer the oath to all the newly elected MLAs of the Nagaland Legislative Assembly.
  • Mhathung Yanthan would perform the duties of the Speaker of the Legislative Assembly w.e.f. the time of vacation of the office of the Speaker of the 13th Nagaland Legislative Assembly by Sharingain Longkumer and until a Speaker is elected .

  • Nagaland’s oldest resident, Pupirei Pfukha, who was 121 years old, passed away at her residence in Kigwema village in Kohima district.

23 March 2023: Smti. Neihunuo Sorhie from Nagaland received Padma Shri Award 2023

Neihunuo Sorhie Padma Shri Award 2023 Nagaland

  • Smti. Neihunuo Sorhie received Padma Shri Award 2023 in the field of Art.
  • She is a sixty-year-old weaver from Kohima, two-time winner of the National Handloom Award. She is also a recipient of the Sant Kabir Award. She had represented Nagaland in various national and international handloom events. She mentored many women in learning the Naga craft and trained over 300 people, besides running a handicraft store in Kohima for at least two decades.
