  • Nagaland went to polls on the 27th February 2023, wherein, 184 candidates contested for the 60 assembly constituencies in Nagaland.
  • A total of 225 nominations were filed for Nagaland Assembly Election 2023.
  • Kazheto Kinimi, BJP candidate from 31- Akuluto assembly constituency in Nagaland won the elections uncontested for a second term.
  • The two major parties in the Nagaland Assembly Election 2023 were NDPP and BJP who were into a pre-poll alliance with 40:20 seat sharing formula.
  • This time, there are four women candidates for the Nagaland assembly elections 2023, two from NDPP, one from BJP and one from Congress.
  • Total of 12 (twelve) political parties contested in the Nagaland Assembly Election 2023
  • The votes were counted on 2 March 2023.

Highlights – Nagaland Assembly Election Result 2023

  • Nagaland scripts history as two women MLAs were elected to the Nagaland Legislative Assembly for the first time in the history of Nagaland.
    1. Hekani Jakhalu (NDPP) from Dimapur III constituency and
    2. Salhoutuonuo Kruse  (NDPP)  from Western Angami constituency.
  • Hekani Jakhalu (NDPP) became the first woman MLA elected from Nagaland.
  • Winners with the most and least margin
    • Winner with the most margin: N. JACOB ZHIMOMI (BJP) with a margin of 20096 votes
      N. JACOB ZHIMOMI (BJP) won against V. PHUSHIKA AOMI (Independent) with a margin of 20096 votes at Ghaspani-I Constituency.
    • Winner with the least margin: Salhoutuonuo Kruse (NDPP) with a margin of 7 votes
      Salhoutuonuo Kruse (NDPP) won against Keneizhakho Nakhro (Independent) with a margin of just 7 votes at Western Angami Constituency.
  • Neiphiu Rio sworn in as Nagaland CM for the fifth term – also becoming the longest serving Chief Minister of Nagaland, surpassing SC Jamir’s record.
  • Deputy Chief Ministers of Nagaland inducted – Taditui Rangkau Zeliang and Yanthungo Patton
