07 September 2024: Hokato Hotozhe Sema wins Bronze at 2024 Paris Paralympics
Hokato Hotozhe Sema wins Bronze under men’s F57 category shot put at at 2024 Paris Paralympics.
Hokato Sema win is the first Paralympic medal from Nagaland State representing India.
Hokato won the bronze medal with a throw of 14.65 meter, which was also his personal best.
18 September 2024: Supreme Court sets aside criminal proceedings against 30 Army personnel involved in 2021 Nagaland -Oting killings which left 13 civilians killed
- Supreme Court sets aside criminal proceedings against 30 Army personnel (21 Para Special Forces) accused in a botched up operation in 2021 in Nagaland (Oting killings) which left 13 civilians killed.
- The case in the Supreme Court involves two writ petitions filed by the wives of two Indian Army officers, seeking to quash a suo-moto FIR registered by the Nagaland Police against army personnel, which includes their husbands.
- Nagaland, being a state under the Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act (AFSPA), 1958, requires sanction from the competent authority (Central Govt) to prosecute armed forces personnel under Section 6 of the AFSPA Act.
- The Central Government had denied the sanction in an order dated February 28, 2023, leading the court to close the case.
About the incident:
- The incident happened in December 2021 at Tiru and Oting area under Mon district of Nagaland.
- Army 21 Para Special Forces mistook coal mine workers returning home to be their insurgent targets.
- A total of 13 civilians were killed.
- Special Investigation Team (SIT) was setup by the State Government to probe the matter and chargesheet was filed in May 2022 at the district and sessions court in Mon.
