16 January 2021: Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio launched COVID-19 vaccination drive in Nagaland
- Along with several other states in India, Nagaland also joined the world’s largest vaccination drive.
- As per news reports, Nagaland received the first batch of 26,500 doses of COVID-19 vaccines from the Union health ministry for the healthcare workers.
India has granted emergency use authorisation (EUA) to two COVID-19 vaccines — Pune-based Serum Institute of India’s Covishield and Hyderabad-based Bharat Biotech International Ltd’s Covaxin, which are being used in the government’s vaccination drive.
20 January 2021: Noklak district officially inaugurated as the 12th district of Nagaland
- Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio formally inaugurated Nagaland’s 12th district on 20 January 2021, three years after its creation on December 21, 2017.
- The inauguration coincided with the Khaozaosie- Hok-Ah festival of the Khiamniungan community.
22 January 2021: Two Nagaland Police Officers to be awarded Police Medal for Meritorious Service on Republic Day 2021
On the occasion of Republic Day 2021, the Ministry of Home Affairs on 22nd January announced the list of the 946 police personnel to be awarded medal for gallantry, meritorious and distinguished services.
Two Nagaland Police officers will be awarded under the category –Police Medal for Meritorious Service (PM) on the occasion of Republic Day 2021 along with 648 others across the nation.

30 January 2021: ‘Nana- A tale of us’ bagged the Best Film North East Award at the Prag Cine Awards 2021
‘Nana- A tale of us’, Nagamese film directed by Tiakümzük Aier bagged the Best Film North East Award at the Prag Cine Awards 2021 held on 30 January, 2021 at Guwahati in Assam.
Besides Best Film North East Award at Prag Cine Awards 2021,
- Mengu Suokhrie was nominated for best Actress in North East India,
- Zhokhoi Chuzho for best actor in North East India and
- Tiakumzuk Aier, as best Director in North east India .
Prag Cine Awards are presented annually by Prag News & Rengoni, a satellite television channel from Assam. The award was first instituted in the year 2003 to give support, recognition and inspiration to the Assamese film industry and honour some of the eminent film personalities who have contributed to the cause of Assamese cinema of Assam. Starting from 2015, films produced in other Northeastern states were also honored in this ceremony. [Source]
‘Nana- A tale of us’ is the first fiction film from Nagaland tobe screened overseas at Edinburgh Festival of Indian Films and Documentaries, Edinburgh, Scotland, in 2017.
- At the Edinburgh Festival of Indian Films and Documentaries (EFIFD), the Director, Tiakumzuk Aier won the Golden Calton Best Director 2017 for the film Nana: A Tale of Us.
The film was also screened at Kolkata International Film Festival 2018 and Brahmaputra Valley Film Festival, 2019.
The film is regarded as one of the most expensive indigenous films yet with a budget of 25 lakhs.
