01 February 2019: Shehri Samridhi Utsav launched in Nagaland

  • Shehri Samridhi Utsav (Street Food festival and job mela) construed as ‘Urban Prosperity Festival’ was launched in Nagaland on 1 February 2019 along with the rest of the country under the aegis of State Urban Development Agency (SUDA) in collaboration with Food Safety, Nagaland under Health & Family Welfare and Kohima Municipal Council.
  • Minister for Urban Development & Municipal Affairs Metsubo Jamir formally launched the festival here at the Directorate of Urban Development.
  • Being held under the aegis of Ministry of Housing and City Affairs, the festival will target on city livelihoods and extending the outreach of National City Livelihoods Mission (Day-NULM).

22 February 2019: Nagaland gets its first First Lokayukta of Nagaland

  • On 22nd February 2019, Justice Uma Nath Singh took the oath as the first lokayukta of Nagaland. He was formerly the Chief Justice of Meghalaya High Court. His tenure would last for a period of 5 years or until he turns 70, whichever occurs earlier.
  • The oath was administered by Governor of Nagaland, Shri. P.B Acharya at Raj Bhavan.

25 February 2019: Nagaland budget 2019-2020

  • On 25th February 2019, Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio presented a budget with deficit of Rs 1,661.68 crore, for the year 2019-2020.
  • Highlights:
    • Total gross receipt of Rs 17,604.48 crore and a total gross expenditure of Rs 18,012.73 crore for the financial year 2019-2020.
    • Negative opening balance of Rs 1661.68 crore.
    • The current year’s transaction was estimated to result in a positive balance of Rs 49.70 crore.
    • Estimated to close with a negative balance of Rs 1611.98 crore.

26 February 2019: Nagaland Startup Policy 2019 tabled in the State Assembly

  • Nagaland Startup Policy aims to establish Nagaland as a model startup leader in the region, by creating a culture of entrepreneurship that nurtures creative and innovative youth, allowing them to build successful startup companies, become job creators and contribute toward building a healthy and sustainable economy.
  • Some key highlights of the policy:
    • Facilitate the growth of at least 500 startups in the next five years, with a focus on establishing innovative “Made in Nagaland” products and services
    • Establish entrepreneurship incubators, in partnership with global leaders on a PPP mode, which will nurture, guide and support existing and aspiring start-ups to become successful business ventures
    • Establish Investor Network
    • Entrepreneurship cells in schools
    • 25% of fund to be dedicated to promote startups by women entrepreneurs in the state
