Nagaland Lok Sabha election 2019: Tokheho Yepthomi of the Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party (NDPP) was the winning candidate from the Nagaland Lok Sabha constituency in the Lok Sabha elections 2019, who won against K L Chishi of the INC.

12 April 2024: Imtinaro T Longkumer wins North East Zone Cultural Centre (NEZCC) Young Talented Artiste Award in field of Theatre

  • Imtinaro T Longkumer was awarded the North East Zone Cultural Centre (NEZCC) Young Talented Artiste Award 2021-2022 in field of Theatre.
  • The award ceremony was held at NEZCC Shilpgram Guwahati (Assam), and the award was given by the Governor of Nagaland La Ganesan.
  • Imtinaro T Longkumer is an actress who has worked in various theatre productions such as:
    • ‘Don’t Women No Cry’ directed by Bendang Walling (YouTube Link)
    • ‘Jina Etiben’ directed by Bendang Walling (YouTube Link)
    • Performed at different states of India during State and National Theatrical Festival organised by National School of Drama.
    • She was also featured in the film title ‘The Curiosity Shop (2016)’ directed by Shankar Borua.
    • She also worked with web series – ‘Dreams and Chaos’ directed by Bendang Walling.‘Dreams and Chaos’ directed by Bendang Walling won the ‘Best Web Series’ award at Kashi Indian International Film Festival Awards (KIIFFA) on April 4, 2021. The web series is based on the Novel ‘Dreams and Chaos’ authored by Sentilong Ozukum.

16 April 2024: Four from Nagaland clear UPSC exams 2023

  • Four candidates from Nagaland cleared cleared the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) exam 2023 :
  1. Tolino Chishi ranked 431,
  2. Alemyin Isaac ranked 749,
  3. Imsurenla Longkumer ranked 774 and
  4. Chubalemba B. Chang ranked 915.
  • Aditya Srivastava secured the top position among the 1016 candidates recommended for appointment.

 

08 May 2024: Japan’s Ambassador to India, Hiroshi Suzuki on two-day visit to Nagaland

  • Japan’s Ambassador to India, Hiroshi Suzuki is on a two-day visit to Nagaland. This is his third visit to the State.
  • During this visit, Hiroshi Suzuki and Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio jointly inaugurated the Kohima Peace Memorial and laid the foundation stone of  Eco Park Kohima.
  • Ambassador Suzuki along with Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio visited the Kohima War Cemetery and laid wreaths. Mr Suzuki also visited the Kohima Cathedral, and World War II Museum at Naga Heritage Village, Kisama.

09 May 2024: Smt. Sano Vamuzo received Padma Shri 2024 in the field of Social Work from the President

  • Smt. Sano Vamuzo received Padma Shri Award 2024 in the field of Social Work from the President of India, Smti. Droupadi Murmu during the Civil Investiture Ceremony-II held at Rashtrapati Bhavan, New Delhi on 9th May 2024.
  • With this, the total Padma Shri Award recipients from Nagaland = 19.

SANO VAMUZO RECEIVES PADMA SHRI AWARD 2024

  • Smt. Sano Vamuzo is a social worker and an educationist who has worked on wide-ranging issues such as women rights, drug and alcohol abuse, education, health, economic exploitation and deforestation.
  • Sano was born on 27th March 1940, to Dr. Sevilie Iralu and Vituno Iralu. She taught in various schools and also started a school at Chozuba – Mission English School (now Eastern Christian School, Chozuba) and served as the school’s first headmistress, 1967-1971. Vamüzo Phesao, her late husband, was the former Nagaland chief minister.
  • She is one of the founding members of Naga Mothers’ Association (NMA) in 1983  to fight social evils and uplift the status of women, with the motto ‘Human Integrity.’ She was the first President of Naga Mother’s Association and served for 7 years from 1984-1991 and again from 1994-1995. She is currently an Advisor to the NMA.
  • Sano also served as the first Chairperson of the Nagaland State Commission for Women, and served for two terms, 2007-2010 and 2010-2013.
  • She was also awarded the Navjyoti Award from Delhi Police Foundation for her outstanding contribution in social services for the youth.

01 June 2024: Gariphema gets best performing tobaccofree village tag

Gariphema village under Kohima district was designated the best performing tobacco free village at a program held at TM Govt Hr School in Kohima on World No Tobacco Day.
