3 July 2025: Nagaland to host the first edition of Dr T Ao Junior (Girls) National Football Championship in November 2025
- In September 2024, the All India Football Association (AIFF) renamed the Junior National Girls Championship to Dr T Ao Junior (Girls) National Football Championship, in honour of the first Captain of the Indian Olympic Football Team (1948), Late Dr. Talimeren Ao.
- Nagaland will be hosting the first edition of Dr T Ao Junior (Girls) National Football Championship 2025 is scheduled to be held during November 2025.
11 July 2025: Official Fixture of Dr.T.AO Trophy 2025 released
The official group stage fixture for the Dr. T Ao Trophy (Inter-District Football Championship) 2025 was released on 11 July 2025. The tournament is scheduled from 1-15 August 2025.
- Total districts participating: 17 districts of Nagaland | Four Groups
- Venue: Indira Gandhi Stadium, Kohima.
- Organised by : Nagaland Football Association (NFA), and hosted by the Kohima District Football Association (KDFA), powered by the District Planning and Development Board (DPDB), Kohima.
- Group Stage: 1-9 August | 28 Matches
- Defending Champion: Tuensang District
- Prize Money: Rs. 3 Lakh for the Champion, Rs. 2 Lakh for the runners-up, and Rs. 50000 each for the losing semi-finalists.
The Dr. T. Ao Trophy, originally known as the Inter District Football Championship, was first established in 1976. It was rechristened as the Dr. T. Ao Trophy in 2004 to honor the legendary Naga footballer and India’s first Olympic football captain, Dr. Talimeren Ao.
15 August 2025: Nagaland Governor La Ganesan passed away on August 15, 2025
- Nagaland Governor La. Ganesan passed away on August 15, 2025 at the age of 80 in Chennai.
- As per media reports, he passed away while undergoing treatment at Apollo Hospitals for a serious head injury sustained after a fall at his residence on August 8.
- Born in Thanjavur, Tamil Nadu, Ganesan began his political journey through the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) before joining the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
- He served as the president of the Tamil Nadu BJP and represented Madhya Pradesh in the Rajya Sabha.
- He was appointed Governor of Manipur in August 2021, held additional charge as Governor of West Bengal from July to November 2022, and assumed office as the 19th Governor of Nagaland on February 20, 2023.
15 August 2025: Mon District football team wins Dr T Ao Trophy 2025
- Mon District is the Champion of the Dr. T Ao Trophy 2025! Mon district football team has won the Dr. T. Ao Trophy 2025, defeating Niuland in the final match held on August 15, 2025, at the Indira Gandhi Stadium in Kohima.
- Mon’s journey to the final included a previous 5 match win and one match draw: a 1-1 draw against Tuensang, a 2-1 win over Niuland, a 1-0 win over Zunheboto, and a 3-1 win against Shamator, and a 3-1 quarter-final win over Dimapur.
- Niuland district is a first time finalist whereas, Mon district was in finals in the 22nd edition of the Dr. T Ao Trophy in Mokokchung.
- The Dr T Ao Trophy 2025, was the 24th edition of Inter-District Football Championship in Nagaland.
