Hokato Hotozhe Sema wins Bronze for India under men’s F57 category shot put at at 2024 Paris Paralympics.

Hokato Hotozhe Sema made history at the Paralympics 2024 by winning bronze as he become the first Paralympic medal from Nagaland State representing India.

Hokato won the bronze medal with a throw of 14.65 meter, which was also his personal best.

Iran’s Yasin Khosravi claimed the gold medal with a throw of 15.96 meter, while Brazil’s Thiago Paulino dos Santos won the silver with a throw of 15.06 meter.

Who is Hokato Hotozhe Sema?

  • Born on December 24, 1983, in Nagaland, India.
  • He grew up in a humble farmer’s family as the second of four children.
  • He joined Indian Army at the age of 17, and dreamt of joining the elite Special Forces (SF).
  • However, he lost his left leg below the knee due to a landmine blast on October 14, 2002 during Counter Infiltration Operation at Line of Control, Jammu and Kashmir.
  • He started training for para-athletics, and took up shot up. His training base was the Army Paralympic Node in Pune, where he honed his skills and developed into one of India’s top para-athletes.
  • He won Bronze for India under men’s F57 category shot put at at 2024 Paris Paralympics, making him the the first Paralympic medalist from Nagaland State.

  • Bronze Medal at Asian Para Games 2022, which took place in 2023.
