1 September 2019: Software Technology Parks of India (STPI) Nagaland

  • Information Technology (IT) startup incubation centre—Software Technology Parks of India (STPI) set to be launched at the new IT & C Directorate, Thizama road in Kohima.
  • The STPI is being setup with the assistance of Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), New Delhi and the space provided by the State Government’s IT Department.
  • The Software Technology Parks of India (STPI) is an autonomous Society set up by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), Government of India in 1991, with the objective of encouraging, promoting and boosting the Software Exports from India.

3 September 2019: Nagaland topped in the category of “developing positive relationships for children”

  • Nagaland topped in the category of “developing positive relationships for children” with a score of 0.84 as per the ‘India Child Well-being Report’ released on 3 September 2019.
  • The report is a collaborative effort of World Vision India and IFMR LEAD.
  • The report indicated that more children in these states are enjoying care in the environment they are growing in. The North-Eastern states had better sex ratio, lesser involvement of children in crimes and most births being registered.

4 September 2019: A teacher from Nagaland among 46 to be conferred National Teacher’s Award on Teacher’s Day 2019.

  • A teacher from Nagaland, Satyen Kumar Roy from Mount Moriah School, Ungma, Mokokchung, among the 46 teachers listed by Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD) to be conferred National Teacher’s Award on Teacher’s Day 2019.

5 September 2019: Dimapur to host the 26th conference of the DGPs and IGPs of the northeastern States

  • Dimapur to host the 26th conference of the DGPs and IGPs of the northeastern States with the Central police organization and other agencies for a two-day programme on September 5 & 6, 2019.
  • To be held at Police Complex, Chumukedima, Dimapur.

6 September 2019: Wokha among 10 districts in India awarded for commendable work in awareness generation and outreach activities under BBBP Scheme

  • Wokha district awarded by Ministry of Women & Child Development (WCD) for doing commendable work in awareness generation and outreach activities under Beti Bachao Beti Padhao (BBBP) programme.
  • Deputy Commissioner of Wokha, Dr Manazir Jeelani Samoon received the award from the Union Minister for Women & Child Development and Textiles, Smriti Irani at the felicitation ceremony of Good ‘Performing States and Districts under Beti Bachao Beti Padhao programme’ in New Delhi on 6 September 2019.
  • Wokha was among the ten districts in India felicitated for undertaking “good work in generating awareness and outreach activities” under BBBP scheme.

 

8 September 2019: ‘Prove Us Wrong’ wins The Morung Debate 2019

  • ‘Prove Us Wrong’ wins the 1st edition of The Morung Debate 2019.
  • The final debate was on the topic: ‘The Hornbill Festival Should Be Discontinued.’ with “Prove Us Wrong” for the motion and “Astral”, against the motion.
  • Cash prize of Rs 50,000 for the Winner and a cash prize of Rs 30,000 for the second position.
  • The Morung Debate is an initiative of The Morung Express with the objective of creating a public debate platform for young people from 18-25 years of age.
  • The 1st edition of The Morung Debate 2019 started on August 16 with 16 teams of five members each.

8 September 2019: Zuchobeni Tungoe crowned Miss Dimapur 2019

  • Zuchobeni Tungoe crowned Miss Dimapur 2019.
  • The second and third place were secured by Lovi Awomi and Nem Rose Merry respectively.
  • Other titles: Miss Photogenic & Style Icon: Zuchobeni Tungoe, Miss perfect 10 & Miss Catwalk: Lovi Awomi, Miss Talented: Roslyn M Yanthan, Miss Congeniality: Nem Rose Merry, Icon Fresh Face: Lucy Gangte, Miss Beautiful Hair: Prima Chettri and Best Ethnic Wear: Anenla Jamir.

10 September 2019: Two new species of ginger discovered from Nagaland

  • Scientists from the Botanical Survey of India (BSI) have discovered two new species of Zingiber, commonly referred to as ginger, from Nagaland.
  • Zingiber dimapurense: discovered from Dimapur district, Nagaland
    • The first new species Zingiber dimapurense is looking with the flower in white color with dark- red blotches and its leafy shoot is about 90-120 cm tall.
  • Zingiber perenense: discovered from Peren district of Nagaland
    • The second species Zingiber perenense reach up to 70 cm tall with the lip of the white flower with purplish-red streaks.
  • Previous discoveries of Zingiber include Hedychium chingmeianum from the Tuensang district of Nagaland, Caulokaempferia dinabandhuensis from the Ukhrul district in Manipur in 2017, and Zingiber bipinianum from Meghalaya in 2015.
  • Nripemo Odyou, from Nagaland, another scientist with the BSI, also contributed to both the new discoveries in 2019.

25 September 2019: Naga Students’ Federation (NSF) and Naga Students’ Union, Delhi (NSUD) organized rally in New Delhi

  • The Naga Students’ Federation (NSF) and Naga Students’ Union, Delhi (NSUD) organised a rally demanding an early solution to the Naga issue with the Framework Agreement signed in August 2015 as the guiding principle.
