2 May 2019: Nagaland Board of School Education (NBSE) declares result of  Class 10 and Class 12 exam 2019

  • NBSE HSLC (Class 10) Exam Result 2019:
    • HSLC (Class 10) Topper: Wangshitemjen Ozukum, Queen Mary HSS Mokokchung, 98%
    • Total appeared : 23,189 candidates (11,175 boys and 12,014 girls)
    • Total Passed: 15,835 candidates
    • Pass Percentage: 68.29% of appeared candidates passed.
    • Pass Percentage of Government Schools and Private Schools were 43.32% and 84.78%  respectively.
  • NBSE HSSLC (Class 11) Exam Result 2019:
    • Topper in Arts stream: Imtijungla Pongen of Christian Higher Secondary School (94.40%)
    • Topper in Science stream: Ananya Kumar Das of St.John Higher Secondary Residential School, Dimapur  (94.60%)
    • Topper in Commerce stream: Suhana Begum of MGM Hr Sec School (MGMHSS) ( 96.00%)

4 May 2019: 30,000 non-governmental organisations (NGO) in Nagaland—one for every 66 persons

  • According to the 2011 Nagaland census, there are 30,000 non-governmental organisations (NGO) in Nagaland—one for every 66 persons as reported by the Indigenous Cultural Society’s Director Dr. Hesheto Chishi, who is also the chairman of the Nagaland NGO Forum during the Northeast Institute of Social Science and Research (NEISSR) programme, on May 4 at the Don Bosco in Dimapur.

  • The YouTube Creator Awards program recognizes the extraordinary effort creators put into their channels, and the Silver Creator Award is awarded for reaching 100,000 subscribers.
  • Dreamz Unlimited became the first YouTube Channel from Nagaland to reach 100,000 subscribers on August 5, 2018.

15 May 2019: Nagaland becomes the first in North East to get level 2 food laboratory

  • The Nagaland State Food Laboratory became the first level- 2 Food Laboratory in the entire North East.
  • This is part of a Central Sector Scheme for strengthening of the food testing system in the country.
  • The machines alone cost Rs. 10 crores, funded by the Food Safety & Standards Authority of India (FSSAI), Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Government of India.
  • Inaugurated by I Himato Zhimomi, Principal Secretary cum Commissioner, Food Safety, Nagaland in a function held at the State Public Health Laboratory, Kohima.
  • Equipments includes – Liquid Chromatography Mass Spectrometer (LCMS), Gas Chromatography Mass Spectrometer (GCMS) and Inductively Coupled Plasma Mass Spectrometer (ICPMS).
  • The equipments can analyze a wide range of food components namely—cereals, oils, food products, beverages, spices, sweets, vegetables, additives etc, including organic, inorganic parts of the food contents like vitamins, proteins, peptides, amino acid hormones, food colors, minerals etc, and test their purity.

23 May 2019: Nagaland Lok Sabha Election 2019 Result

  • Sitting MP Tokheho Yepthomi from Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party (NDPP) won the lone Lok Sabha seat by margin of 16344 seats.
  • Four candidates were in the fray for the one seat in Nagaland, namely former Chief Minister K L Chishi (Congress), sitting MP Tokheho Yepthomi (Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party (NDPP)) supported by BJP, Hayithung Tungoe (National People’s Party (NPP)) and M.M Thromwa Konyak (Indian Christian Secular Party (ICSP)), an independent. NPF party did not field any candidate.
  • Nagaland Lok Sabha Election 2019 Result:
    • Out of the 10,02,670 votes, the vote count is as given below:
      • Tokheho Yepthomi (NDPP)  – 5,00,510 votes
      • K L Chishi(Congress) – 4,84,166 votes
      • Hayithung Tungoe (NPP) -14,997 votes
      • Dr MM Thromwa Konyak (ICSP) – 4,620 votes
      • None of the above – 2064 votes

23 May 2019: Nagaland 26 Aonglenden Assembly constituency by-election 2019 Result

  • Sharingain Longkumer (NDPP), won the by-election to 26 Aonglenden Assembly constituency by a margin of 6,245 votes.
  • Votes obtained:
    • Sharingain Longkumer (NDPP): 8,607 votes | Won by 6245 votes
    • Alem Jongshi (Congress / INC): 2,362 votes
    • None Of The Above (NOTA): 28 votes
    • Postal ballots which got rejected: 17 votes

24 May 2019: Nagaland gets first Mini Gene Bank

  • Nagaland gets first Mini Gene Bank – under National Adaption Fund for Climate Change Project at State Agriculture Research Station (SARS) Yisemyong, Mokokchung was inaugurated on May 24, 2019.
  • Capacity of 12,500 lt. It can preserve 20 to 30 thousand samples and can be deposited for 10 years.

  • Kangaroo care or kangaroo mother care (KMC), sometimes called skin-to-skin contact, is a technique of newborn care where babies are kept chest-to-chest and skin-to-skin with a parent, typically their mother. It is most commonly used for low birth-weight preterm babies, who are more likely to suffer from hypothermia, while admitted to a neonatal unit to keep the baby warm and support early breastfeeding.

31 May 2019: Nagaland records lowest Infant Mortality Rate & Death Rate in India

  • According to the Sample Registration System (SRS) data, Nagaland recorded the lowest Infant Mortality Rate in the Indian Union for 2016-2017 at 7 per 10,000 population.
  • Infant Mortality Rate in Nagaland: 38 per 10,000 population in 2005-06, 29  per 10,000 population in 2015-16 and 7 per 10,000 population in 2016-2017
