02 March 2022 : Three Nagas affected by war in Ukraine- one reached Delhi, two in safe zones awaiting evacuation
Three Naga students were affected by the ongoing Russia – Ukraine war. As per news reports, one of them have reached safely in New Delhi and other two are in safe zones.
- Olika Mlato Shikhu, a final year medical student in Poltava reached New Delhi on 02 March 2022. Nagaland House official received her as per this news report.
- Two others awaiting evacuation:
- Machu Yirackchang, moving towards Budapest, Hungary.
- Amen Aier reached Chisinau, capital of Moldova.
Nagaland Government also launched helpline numbers for coordinating with any Nagaland citizens stranded in Ukraine- State Emergency Operation Centre (SEOC), NSDMA, Home Department 0370-2291122/2291120. The Indian Government’s operation to evacuate Indian national from the Russia – Ukraine war zone is codenamed “Operation Ganga”.
According to Ukraine’s Ministry of Education and Science, there are around 18,095 Indian students in the country. About 2000 Indians are also working in Ukraine.
08 March 2022: Yibeni Humtsoe from Nagaland receive National Social Soldier Award 2022
Journalist and Human Rights Activist Yibeni Humtsoe from Nagaland was conferred with National Social Soldier award 2022 on the occasion of the International Women’s day on 8 March 2022 by the National Council of Women in association with Ministry of Women and Child Development, Govt. of India.
The National Social Soldier Award 2022 honours “outstanding women empowerment action in defence of women rights and empowerment. She was awarded in the ‘women rights’ segment.
Yibeni Humtsoe is an advisory penal member at National Commission for Women, Para legal Volunteer at District Legal Services Authority, Guwahati and Bureau Chief of ‘Country and Political’ newspapers.
08 March 2022: Two Naga Women receive National Best Women Vaccinator’s Award
Keneingunuo Angami and K Kushen Khiam were among 72 frontline workers/vaccinators from across the country to receive Best Women Vaccinators’ Award instituted for health care workers as part of India’s National Covid Vaccination Programme.
Union Health minister Mansukh Mandaviya felicitated the awardees on the occasion of International Women’s Day at National Institute of Health and Family Welfare, Delhi.
08 March 2022: MykiFest Award 2021-2022
Myki Awards 2021-2022 were conferred to four women for exemplary service and excellence in various field of work.
1) Sesino Yhoshü (Film Director)
Sesino is a recipient of the Young Achievers Award in the field of film making conferred by the Dalmia Group. Her notable works include:
- “The Pangti Story (2016)” won the Best Environmental Film(non-feature) at the 65th National Film Awards and the Golden Beaver Award at the 7th National Science Film Festival 2017.
- “Story of a House” – won the Best Director (Short Film) at the Northeast Film Festival 2015.
2) Zakilhounuo Tepa (Female Taxi Drive)
- Zakilhounuo Tepa, 47 years is a Taxi Driver by profession from Mima village under Kohima district. From 2014 she started driving her taxi between BOC Kohima and Jakhama.
3) Abi Humtsoe is the Proprietor of M/S Naga Traditional Corner, Wokha.
- She is a progressive entrepreneur having a well-established unit dealing in traditional attires and costumes for over 15 years. Having well-acquainted with the choice of demand for material design and style, color preference, or fiber quality, and to meet the variable demand of the customers, she ensures rich availability of traditional attires & costumes, mainly for Lotha-Naga.
4) Sibeule Zeliang – the first lady to contest in the election in 1987:
- Sibeule Zeliang, 81 years old, is the first lady to contest in the State election in 1987 as Independent Candidate from 7 Peren AC. Though she lost the election, she continued as a social worker and helped many women in self-employment and other sustainable activities.
- She is presently serving as Chairperson, 6 Ward Mdipuiram and 9 Ward Chairman, Union President, Peren town.
08 March 2022: Women awarded for exemplary services on International Women’s Day 2022
Nagaland State Commission for Women (NSCW) Awards 2022:
Five women were awarded NSCW Awards for exemplary services at a programme on International Women’s Day 2022. The programme was organised by NSCW in collaboration with State Resource Centre for Women, Social welfare department and Japfü Christian College.

MRITE Awards 2022
Momentum Routine Immunization Transformation and Equity (MRITE) awards were given to four women and Lotha Eloe Hoho (LEH).
- Neivete-U Sono, Community Health Officer of Longwa Health & Wellness Centre (HWC), Mon district: for fighting the social stigma surrounding Covid-19 through campaigns on various platforms and by conducting awareness and sensitisation programmes on Covid vaccines for different age groups and categories on different occasion and platforms.
- Dr Orentsani Kikon, Medical Officer of AYUSH Tseminyu Community Health Centre (CHC): for manning the largest quarantine centre in Kohima district and effectively discharging her duties in an extremely grave situation where lives were at risk and people were dying.
- Vechulou Kanuo, Co-Chairperson of Nagaland health Project CHC Pfutsero: for leading the community in creating awareness across Nagaland on Covid vaccines on different platforms.
- Sethonuo Sachu, Chief Health Officer (CHO) of Jalukie Zangdi HWC in Peren: for her boldness, walking the extra mile and befriending hostile communities in her quest to achieve 100% vaccination, while also managing all OPD cases, emergencies, pregnancy cases, routine vaccination and community outreach in her spare time.
- Lotha Eloe Hoho (LEH): for active aprticipation in massive Covid-19 awareness and vaccination campaigns across Wokha district and extended financial assistance to quarantine centres, district hospitals, etc, setting an example of warrior women and empowering and encouraging women through their work.
Mrite is part of a suite of innovative awards funded by the U.S. Agency for. International Development (USAID) to holistically improve family planning.
19 March 2022: Nagaland Assembly becomes the first in country to implement National e-Vidhan Application (NeVA)
Nagaland Assembly becomes the first in country to implement National e-Vidhan Application (NeVA) on 19 March 2022.
Under the NeVA programme, the Nagaland Assembly Secretariat has attached a tablet on the tables of the 60 members in the Assembly. This was used for the first time during the Budget session for fiscal 2022-23 which commenced on 19th March 2022.
The National e-Vidhan Application (NeVA) programme is implemented under the supervision of the Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs. The expenses for implementing NeVA is funded by the Centre and the state government on a 90:10 sharing basis.
22 March 2022: Nagaland Budget 2022-2023 – Nagaland CM presents Rs 2212.74 crore budget deficit
Chief Minister, Neiphiu Rio presented the final budget of the 13th Nagaland Legislative Assembly for the year 2022-23 on 22nd March 2022.
Important figures in the budget estimate for the financial year 2022-23:
- Gross receipts at Rs. 24389.80 crores (A)
- Gross expenditure at Rs. 24239.50 crore (B)
- Surplus: Rs. 150.3 Crore (A-B) –>(C)
- Negative opening balance for 2022-2023: Rs. 2363.04 crore (D)
- Estimated closing balance for 2022-23: a negative balance of Rs. 2212.74 crore (C-D =Negative Balance)

27 March 2022: Longtsukumba Ao from Nagaland wins silver at GAMMA world championships
Longtsukumba Ao won silver in the finals of the Global Association of Mixed Martial Arts (GAMMA) World championships, held in Sporthallen Zuid, Amsterdam, Netherlands. He fought against Mohammad Wasfi Ismael Eid (30) from Jordon in 65.8 kg elite MMA category.

Arsenba Ozukum, another MMA fighter from Nagaland who competed in 56.8 kg striking MMA category won Bronze.
Other MMA fighters who competed in the event includes Avizo Lanamai in the 70 kg elite MMA category, Limasunep Imchen in 61.2 kg elite MMA category.
The fighters were trained at The Combat Academy Nagaland and were accompanied by coach Khriemelie Metha. All together, 33 fighters represented India at the GAMMA World Championships 2021.
28 March 2022: Shri. T. Senka Ao from Nagaland received Padma Shri Award
Shri. T. Senka Ao from Nagaland received Padma Shri Award in the field of in the field of literature and education. He received the Padma Shri Award from the President of India, Ram Nath Kovind at a ceremony held at Rashtrapati Bhavan on March 28, 2022. The award was announced in January 2022.
Senka Ao, 76, was conferred Padma Shri, India’s fourth-highest civilian award, in recognition of his service as a “Tribal ao author, teacher and journalist – preserving Nagaland’s Ao language through his writings over decades”. He is an eminent personality from Nagaland in the field of media literature, education and social work. He is the former Editor-in-Chief of the “Ao Milen” for 20 years – the first newspaper in Ao language.

31 March 2022: Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA) reduced in Nagaland, Assam and Manipur
Government of India decides to reduce disturbed areas under Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA) in Nagaland, Assam and Manipur.
With respect to Nagaland, the Disturbed Area Notification is being withdrawn from 15 police stations in 7 districts in Nagaland with effect from 01.04.2022.
Districts in Nagaland which are under AFSPA and which are withdrawn:
Districts in Nagaland where AFSPA is completely withdrawn: Tuensang, Shamator and Tseminyu districts.
Districts in Nagaland where AFSPA is partially withdrawn: Kohima, Wokha, Mokokchung and Longleng districts.
Districts in Nagaland where AFSPA is still in force: Dimapur, Peren, Phek, Kiphire, Mon, Niuland, Chumoukedima, Zunheboto, Noklak.
As per press release press release by PIB, AFSPA in the four states for the next 6 months from 01.04.2022 are as follows:
(a) Nagaland: Disturbed Area Notification is being removed from 15 Police Stations in 7 Districts of Nagaland. Whereas, the ‘Disturbed Area’ notification will remain in force in 57 police stations in 13 districts out of 72 police stations in total of 16 districts in the state of Nagaland;
(b) Arunachal Pradesh: The “disturbed area” notification shall remain in force in three districts of the State of Arunachal Pradesh namely Tirap, Changlang, Langding and two police stations of Namsai and Mahadevapur in Namsai district;
(c) Assam: Disturbed area notification is being completely removed from 23 districts out of total 33 districts in the State of Assam and partially in 1 district. Whereas, the notification of ‘Disturbed Areas’ will remain in force in 9 districts completely and 1 district partially;
(d) Manipur: Disturbed area notification is being removed from 15 police station areas in 6 districts of the State of Manipur. Whereas, the ‘Disturbed Area’ notification will remain in force in 82 police stations in 16 districts out of 97 police stations in 16 districts in the state of Manipur.
