Nagaland declared ‘disturbed area’ for 6 more months
In exercise of the powers conferred by Section 3 of the Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act, 1958 (No.28 of 1958), the Central Government declared Nagaland a ‘disturbed area’ for 6 more months with effect from 30th June, 2020 till December end.
Nagaland has been under the Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act (AFSPA) for almost six decades.

Nagaland Government bans sale of dog meat
Nagaland Government came under pressure and banned the sale of dog meat, the consumption of which has been protested by animal rights activists over the years. The State Government has decided to ban commercial import and trading of dogs and dog markets and also the sale of dog meat, both cooked and uncooked.

Nagaland Government asks employees to self-declare any family members or close relatives in the insurgent groups
Nagaland Government has asked its employees to self-declare, in writing, if they have any family members or close relatives in the various insurgent groups.
As per instructions, all the Administrative Heads of Departments are directed to obtain information in the self-declaration form from all employees under them regarding family members and relatives in underground organisations and submit to the Home Department, Political Branch latest by 7th August, 2020.Those who have persons in the underground were to write the names of the person, his organisation, the position/rank held by the person in the organisation and also write the nature of relationship.

Nagaland Police Sets-up State’s and North East’s Biggest Covid-19 Quarantine Facility With 1,027 Beds
- Nagaland Police have set up the north-eastern state’s biggest quarantine facility managed by police personnel.
- The 1027-bed quarantine centre was setup at Ganeshnagar Special Economic Zone in Dimapur.
- As per media reports,the first batch of 509 returnees from Bengaluru, including 383 men and 126 women, arrived at the quarantine centre on June 5, followed by returnees from Punjab, Karnataka, Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal, Assam, Kerala, Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh.
- The Ganeshnagar quarantine centre is the biggest one in Nagaland to be built and managed by police for people of the state through the Community Oriented Police Service (COPS) initiative.

Nagaland Police arrests Hema Choudhary
A team of Nagaland police personnel, assisted by Maharashtra police arrested Hema Choudhary, a Mumbai-based animal rights activist from her Mumbai residence in Oshiwara locality on 17 July 2020.
She was arrested on charges of making derogatory remarks targeting Nagaland, creating public mischief and also promoting enmity between different groups of people via video posted on Social Media platforms. The video attracted several complaints against her. As per media reports, the Cyber Crime Police Station registered a case under sections 153A/153B/505(1)/505(2) of IPC, read with, sections 3(r)/3(s)/3(u) of the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act.
The Chief Judicial Magistrate, Kohima, issued a non-bailable warrant of arrest against Chowdhary. Nagaland Police team was sent to Mumbai on July 15 and affected her arrest from her Oshiwara residence in the city, in coordination with the Mumbai Police on July 17.

Hema Choudhary brought to Kohima
Hema Choudhary, a Mumbai-based animal rights activist from Mumbai was arrested by Nagaland Police on 17 July 2020 and brought to Nagaland on 20 July 2020.
A Mumbai court granted a 4-day “Transit Remand” to bring her to Nagaland from Mumbai via Delhi and Imphal.

First COVID-19 Death Reported In Nagaland
- Nagaland reported the first COVID-19 death after a 50 year old man died at Dimapur District COVID-19 Hospital.
- The man passed away on 21st July 2020, and the test result came out positive on 24 July 2020, three days after his death.
